You may not realize this when talking with people that they have a tell when they are lying or telling you the truth that they are not aware of. It goes something like this." I really like the way your dressed, but how about this shirt?" or here is another example... " I don't think Phil is an alcoholic, but he does drink everyday." The lie or non truth of how a person thinks they believe comes before the "but" and the truth of how they really feel always comes after.
Most of the time the person is telling you what they think you want to hear and then comes the "but" and they tell you how they really feel.
Try to listen for it in your conversations with people and see if you can spot it. You may be doing it yourself without ever knowing it, but then again I never do. :)
